Charles Donald (Don) Poe, age 76, of Novice, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at his residence. Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Novice Baptist Church in Novice, Texas, with Rev. Matt Morton and Dr. James D. Poe officiating. Inurnment will be in the Rough Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Don was born April 5, 1937 in Cisco, Texas, a son of A. C. Poe and Madeline Flora Hooker Poe Graves. He grew up in Cisco and was part of the class of 1955. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 and in the United States Navy from 1960-1966. On February 25, 1967 he married Lynn Joy Heard at her grandparent's house in Brown County. Following their marriage, they lived in Cisco until 1971 when they moved to Sweetwater from 1972-1976. They returned to live in Cisco until moving to Novice in 1981. Don was a carpenter and a cowboy before going to work for the boll weevil eradication program as a truck driver. Don served on the City Council in Novice and was the Mayor and the Mayor Pro Tem. He also worked hard to maintain the roads in Novice. He was a member and deacon at Novice Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Poe, of Novice; son, Bubba Poe and Chyerl Galle of Albany; daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Corey Johnson and their sons, Hunter and Ethan of Novice; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Marc Minnies of Whitney,her daughter Neely Duty and her son Declan Gerek, and Donna's son, Jeremy Burleson; two brothers, Dr. James D. Poe and wife Anna of Abilene and Gail Graves and wife Pam of Lake Hideaway; a sister, Judy Martin and husband Wes of Wichita Falls; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
