Billie Joy Adams Williams left this world to rest with the Lord on November 23, 2025. She was born to Matthew Leon Petty and Mary Anna Stewart Petty on January 30, 1933, in Santa Anna, Texas. Matthew, her father, worked for the railroad so they moved when the job required it. Billie grew up in and around Coleman County, attending school at Santa Anna, Bangs and graduating from Novice, in 1950.
After high school, she moved to Dallas, working as a telephone operator and that is where she met the kids father. This union took her to Arkansas for a few years where the kids were born. Sometimes life creates changes, so she started a new chapter of her life and moved back to Coleman with the kids. She worked for many years for Coleman Bank, raising the kids and making many lifelong friends that she still communicates with today.
In 1975, Billie married John B. “Son” Williams and moved to Concho County. They lived there for many years, moving back to Coleman upon retirement in 1999. She and Son had many friends and family in Coleman and were members of the Elm Street Church of Christ. Upon Son’s death in 2011, she moved to the High Rise in Coleman and formed many new friendships while there. She enjoyed watching and keeping up with the activities that took place in downtown Coleman.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the hospital for many years and always said how important it was that we keep a hospital. We would like to express our thanks to Dr. Reynolds and staff, Coleman County Medical Center for always giving her quality care. Words cannot express our sincerest gratitude for the care and love she has received over the last few weeks from Holiday Hill and the staff. You really went above and beyond with your services.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Son Williams; her parents, Matthew and Mary Anna Petty; infant daughter Susan Adams; brother, Tommy Petty, and just recently her sister, Lillian Rathmell.
Survivors are her sister, Ann Byrd of Arlington, children, Jo Ann and Jacky May of Ovalo, Lloyd and Kim Adams of Evansville, Indiana, and Judith and Rusty Thweatt of San Angelo. Grandchildren are Scott and Amanda Maikrantz of Leander, Cary Roberts of Ovalo, Justin and Katy Thweatt of Waco, Sam and Bethany Roberts of Round Hill, Virginia, Brianna Henderson of Wimberly, Jessica Thweatt of Pueblo, Colorado, Ross Adams of Evansville, Indiana and Brady and Jessica May of Boerne. She also had numerous great-grandchildren which she always enjoyed their visits and energy.
The family will host a visitation beginning at 12 noon on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman. A service to celebrate the life of Billie Joy Adams Williams will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Bob Martin officiating. Inurnment will follow at Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Billie enjoyed many years of friendship and conversations when she would go to the Senior Center, so the family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Senior Center (www.colemanseniorcenter.org), 400 S. Concho, Coleman, Texas 76834 or to the charity of your choice.
Please leave condolences and memories of Billie on her obituary page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Billie Joy Adams Williams.
